DSD Residency 2
Digital Smile Design (DSD) Residency is a specialized training program for dental professionals focused on the principles and application of Digital Smile Design in cosmetic dentistry. Digital Smile Design is a concept developed by Dr. Christian Coachman that utilizes digital technology to enhance smile makeovers and treatment planning.
During a DSD Residency, participants typically learn the principles and techniques of digital smile design, including the use of specialized software and imaging tools. You gain a thorough experience in analyzing facial and dental aesthetics, creating digital smile simulations, and communicating treatment plans to patients. The residency also covers topics such as smile analysis, photography, treatment sequencing, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Each DSD residency is unique in their own way.
My second residency was in Seville in May 2023. Seville is a beautiful city. I had chosen it over the residency in Brazil for two reasons. The first was flight patterns from North America (specifically Canada). The second was the Education Centre in Seville was a brand new facility. Lastly, the history of Andaluscia has always facinated me (never hurts to mix education with tourism).
Residency 2 was intense and introduced live comprehensive patient care to the educational series. The facility in Seville now has an amazing education centre with 15 video feeds showing live surgical and dental treatments over the span of 3 days. No, I’m serious, the video technology in this place is amazing andthe 3:1 ratio super large LED board is nothing short of ones used in stadiums and arenas (I even took note of the great sound quality in the place!). The information was so intense and interesting that I simply didn’t have time to take a quick nap (for which I have been caught doing by my staff in the past). At many points in time there were two live procedures and a simultaneous lecture - it was like being at a sports bar and seeing many hockey games going on.
Dental courses, like DSD Residencies, bring together like minded dentists, and other dental professionals who share a common interest in expanding their knowledge and skills. This creates a supportive and collaborative environment where participants can connect, interact, and learn from one another. I enjoyed meeting dentists from all over the world, some of whom are just beginning their journey and others who’s journey knows no end!
Distractions: There were way too many being in Spain, but I will start with the ones in Seville: Royal Alcázar of Seville. If you’re from North America, the history doesn’t run as far back as europe and the middle east. The Alcázar is a magnificent royal palace known for its architectural beauty and historical significance. With its origins dating back to the 10th century, the Alcázar showcases a captivating blend of Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance, and Mudéjar styles, representing the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the region over the centuries. If you’re in Seville, you must go. Remember to purchase tickets before you go online.
